Summer Heat

Phyllis Babcock

The hot days of summer came on very quickly
heat became oppressive
drying the soil at a rapid rate
fields started to show drought
garden leaves hung from the sun’s heat
animals looked for shade
water became more sparse
grass turning brown
cracks appeared on the ground
relentless the sun beat
only to have respite after the sun went down.
