Sarah Salway
Naked in a green room,
she needs no mirrors to applaud
the way she stretches stems heavy
with unruffled flowers,
watches her petals gently fall
sure they will stay
as still as she left them,
this scented carpet to wake up to
when every day is new
and every second hers alone.
She’ll spend it with a poem
her own heart reads for her,
because how fresh the silence is
when no one tells her what to hear.
She’s growing straight now
as she was always meant to be.
